A couple of days ago, as I was scrolling through my Twitter timeline, I saw this tweet from @Zooropalg:
If you are familiar with the jailbreak theming scene, you must have stumbled upon this name. He has never released a theme himself, but has contributed to making graphics and widgets for many notable themers (including FIF7Y, sounds a bell?). I have never met this Frenchman personally, but have followed him on Twitter for long enough to call myself his friend (or at least a friendly stalker).
Although posted as a joke, I thought to myself how cool it would be if people actually did as he suggested: if all his followers did send him 50c via paypal, he would be able to buy himself a new iPhone 5 which, unfortunately, he can’t afford at the moment.
I’ve sent him 50c. And from his following tweets I gather another 20+ people did the same (I wouldn’t be surprised if others weren’t as cheap as I was).
In order to pay for the new iPhone, Zoo is probably still short by a few hundreds €’s. This is where I believe the jailbreaking community can help the chap out. I’m sure a tiny donation wouldn’t hurt anyone’s pocket, but make the biggest difference in Zooropalg’s life. We all love our iPhones (especially our iPhone5′s!), you can surely empathize with those who don’t have one.
Why am I doing this? Simply because I can. Maybe I’ve watched “Pay it forward” too many times, or perhaps I think we, the jailbreaking community, can make a difference that extends beyond our tweaks, themes, and apps. Just imagine how awesome you would feel if you were the one receiving the iPhone 5.
If you do want to make a donation, Zooropalg’s Paypal address is firstname.lastname@example.org. When entering it in Paypal, you will find that the account is linked to a woman’s name. It is his wife’s so do not fear :). If I haven’t convinced you to make the tiniest of tiniests donation then at least send a tweet with a link to this post, and follow him.
UPDATE (November 1st, 2012):
this is a message I have received from Zooropalg today:
This was amazing news! He has sent this message to 63 people, which I am guessing is the number of you who have donated. Thank you to all – and lets be proud of the iCommunity we are part of!
